Limoges Jardiniere Pink/White Roses Heavy Gold and Gold Encrusted Plinth

  

I have for your consideration a lovely Limoges jardiniere/planter/vase bearing the Delinieres Factory underglaze mark 3 (circa 1894) together with a gold encrusted paw footed plinth/base bearing the underglaze mark 1 of the Bernardaud & Co. This fabulous piece stands 8.5" tall, 8.75" in diameter at the mouth opening, and comes in at nearly 37 in circumference at its widest. On a creamy vanilla white porcelain splashed with touches of pale pinks and blues, the artist has hand painted huge pink and yellow roses.

The pink roses have white curled edges that are embellished with thick raised brush strokes. Their centers are a mixture of pale yellow and a dark raspberry. The yellow rose has a rich amber middle and also displays have raised white embellishments on the edge of its petals. These roses start around the stand up rim and are nestled among foliage in tones of greens and browns with long tendrils of gray and pink leaves swirling about.

The jardiniere/planter/vase has a large gold gilded cartouche along one section of the strand up rim. Its bottom edge is outlined with raised flourishes and bead work. This same pattern of elaborate scrolling, fret work, and raised gold beading continues in large sections over the surface of the jardiniere and brings with it a high level of richness. Adding even more texture and depth, interspersed throughout the gold design are smaller areas of blue flourishes with raised white embellishments. The top edge and inside rim of the jardiniere is finished in gold gild and frames the roses and one would frame a still life painting. A jardiniere this gorgeous deserves to sit on a opulent and regal plinth and this paw fitted gold encrusted base certainly fills the bill. It stands 3" tall and when the jardiniere is put in its rightful place, the marriage of the two pieces together makes it soar to a height of nearly 11.5" tall. This is simply a lovely, lovely jardiniere in excellent condition. I see no loss to the paint roses or porcelain surface. There is but extremely minimal wear to the gold on both the jardiniere and the plinth.
